Elder Abuse

The elderly are some of our most vulnerable citizens.  When the elderly are abused, it is against the law.  The Federal Older Americans Act of 1965 sets forth the general guidelines for elder abuse prevention.  State laws also prohibit elder abuse.  Elder abuse can take many forms.  It can be financial, physical, emotional, psychological or negligent.

Has someone sold an elderly person services or a product they clearly don’t need?  Has someone gained an elderly person’s confidence then taken their finances for an improper purpose?  Has an elderly person been unduly influenced to change the beneficiary of their will or trust?  Has the elderly person been physically struck or hit?  Do they have sores or marks on their body?  Are they being psychology abused.  All of these may be signs of elder abuse.

If you or someone you care about suspects that elder abuse has taken place, please contact our office for a free consultation.
