Medi-Cal Planning

Medicare is a federal government healthcare benefits program.  Medi-Cal is a California state based program.  Both pay benefits depending on the circumstances.

Often times Medi-Cal planning can be a major part of an effective long term care plan.
Medi-Cal provides public assistance to persons who qualify.  Medi-Cal looks at the assets you own and your income level in deciding who is eligible to receive these benefits.

Medicare would cover some long term health care costs under certain circumstances. If you were to go into a nursing home directly from the hospital and you required daily physical therapy or skilled nursing assistance, Medicare would cover those expenses.  On the other hand, if you needed long term care “custodial care” with the basic activities of daily living, such as mobility, hygiene, cooking, shopping, administering medications, etc., Medicare would not cover these expenses.

Medi-Cal planning involves reviewing your assets and income to make certain they are titled in such a way so as to not prevent you from qualifying for these governmental assistance programs.
