Trust Administration

When a loved one passes away, their trust should protect and pass along the assets in their estate to the designated beneficiaries of their choosing.  However this doesn’t happen automatically.  The trustee designated in the trust documents has a legal duty to “administer the trust.”  This simply means that the trustee must take action.  Tax returns must be filed, notices must be sent, and the assets trust must be located and preserved.

Often a knowledgeable attorney is retained by the trustee to oversee and manage the trust administration.  The trustee is comfortable knowing the attorney is overseeing the process.   This can mean all the difference in getting things done right and on time.

Our office represents trustees in these matters. If you are a designated trustee or you know a trustee that needs attorney assistance in administering an estate planning trust, please contact us at Brownell Law Corporation.
